Battery power stations for a Tampa Bay house

A power station is a battery with outlets: no fuel, no exhaust, and made to run inside the house. Six of them, from a 10-pound unit for the CPAP to 4 kWh systems that back up house circuits.

A portable battery power station

Which kind fits

Size it in watt-hours against what has to run overnight. Our power station or generator guide has the arithmetic.

Under 500 Wh

Bedside

A CPAP, phones, a router and a fan. Light enough to carry, quick to recharge from the car.

About 1 kWh

The refrigerator

Keeps the fridge cold for most of a night, plus phones and the internet. Refill with a few hundred watts of solar.

About 2 kWh

Fridge plus comfort

The fridge, a CPAP, fans and the internet overnight, or a small AC for a few hours.

4 kWh and up, 240 V

Home backup

Feeds chosen house circuits through a panel or transfer switch, and expands with extra batteries.

Quick picks

The short answer for common situations. Each links to the full card below.

  • A CPAP through the night

    EcoFlow RIVER 3 Plus

Ten pounds on the nightstand, and it switches over in under 10 ms when the power drops.

  • The refrigerator for a night

    Anker SOLIX C1000 Gen 2

Its 2,000 W output starts a refrigerator compressor, and it refills from a generator in under an hour.

  • A house with no AC running

    Jackery Explorer 1000 v2

Rated to 113 °F, against 104 °F for the Anker and BLUETTI units of similar size.

  • Fridge, CPAP and fans overnight

    BLUETTI Elite 200 V2

About 2 kWh carries all three until morning, and 1,000 W of solar input refills it on a sunny day.

  • House circuits, including 240 V

    EcoFlow DELTA Pro 3

A 120/240 V output with an L14-30R, and a home panel or transfer switch option an electrician can install.

  • The most battery, expandable

    Anker SOLIX F3800 Plus

It expands to about 27 kWh and takes up to 3,200 W of solar.

Keep it cool, and keep it charged

Every one of these stops charging below freezing, which Tampa rarely sees, and the Anker and BLUETTI units are rated to 104 °F, and a closed garage in a Florida August can get hotter than that. Store and run them in the house. Charge them full at the start of hurricane season and top them up when a storm enters the forecast. For recharging during an outage, see recharging after the storm.
